Yuga Labs, a leader in the Web3 space and creator of projects such as Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), CryptoPunks, Meebits and 10KTF, announces the acquisition of Roar Studios. Roar Studios brings gaming, social media and virtual universes together. It is a new type of product that combines innovative proprietary technology with mature massively multiplayer online games and platform systems. Roar Studios aims to create an immersive, semi-autonomous world of music and entertainment driven by individual content creators and community consensus. The acquisition will help Yuga Labs develop an ambitious interoperable metaverse project called Otherside and strengthen its ecosystem. Eric Reid, Founder and CEO of Roar Studios, will join Yuga Labs as General Manager of Otherside, with the goal of redefining the utility of NFTs and challenging traditional gaming spaces with projects like Otherside.
Next month, Yuga Labs will release the public beta of Legends of the Mara (LoTM) - and more to come. In partnership with Faraway, a major expansion is underway in Unity. Faraway is a game studio and publisher building interoperable player-driven universes. But we now want to get an early version in the hands of the community so you can play the game and provide feedback while we continue to build.
LoTM is a set-based 2D strategy game developed by Yuga Labs as part of the Otherside metaverse. It involves evolving the Mara creature into the more powerful Kodamara, harvesting the "Sediment", and defending the land from other operations from the evil forces known as The Shattered infringement. Players use Otherdeed NFTs as game boards and Vessel NFTs, which can transform into Mara and further evolve into Kodamara under certain conditions. There are different types of ships - hunters, farmers and enchanters, whose evolution is influenced by constellations and seasonal catalysts from the other side. Players will need to choose strategically between farming the sediment and fighting the Broken, considering the scarcity and impact of their decisions. Defeating the Breakers yields rare treasure and unearthed artifacts that enhance gameplay and help friends. The game features a global leaderboard that tracks damage and time against The Shattered, and alliances with Yuga and third-party collectibles to help fight The Shattered.
